Our School's History

Chemu Senior High Technical School was established when the then PNDC Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Miss Ama Ata Aidoo decided to deboardinize  schools to offset the high boarding fees, and increase the intake of students. To respond to the increasing demand for vacancies in the schools in the Tema Metropolis, the Community 4 No.2, Middle School was converted to a secondary school and named Tema Day Secondary School.

The School was formally established on 12th October, 1982 with two (2) streams of 86 students and a teaching staff of nine (9).The then Assistant Headmaster of Tema Secondary School, the late P.K. Dzitri was seconded to the school as the Acting Headmaster, in 1982.

There was a suggestion that the school be named after the first Paramount Chief of Tema, Nii Adjetey Ansah, hence to be known as Adjetey Ansah Secondary School. This suggestion was widely resisted by students resulting in series of demonstrations.

After further stakeholder engagement, the traditional authorities suggested the name ‘Chemu’, which also suffered initial resistance, but after further explanations, the name was accepted and finally the then Tema Day Secondary School was renamed Chemu Secondary School, now Chemu Senior High Technical School.
